How to Make Lash Extensions Last Longer
What affects retention
Beautiful extensions do not need a complicated routine. Keep them clean, be gentle around your eyes and return for maintenance before the set feels sparse.
Your extensions shed with your natural lashes, so no set lasts forever. How long they look full depends on your natural lash cycle, the set you choose and how you care for it at home.
The habits that help
Keep your lashes clean
Clean lashes are healthier-looking lashes. Use a lash-safe cleanser as part of your daily routine, then rinse thoroughly and pat the eye area dry. Cleansing removes makeup, skin oils and the small amount of debris that can gather around the lash line.
Do not avoid water altogether. Once your appointment is finished, regular gentle cleansing is part of good extension care.

Water is fine after your appointment
At The Lash Spa, we use an Australian-made adhesive from a specialist manufacturer. Before application, we prepare the natural lashes with a pH balancer. After application, we use SuperBonder from the same manufacturer to seal the adhesive immediately.
That means you do not need to keep your new extensions dry for 24–48 hours. You can return to the gym, go to the beach or take part in other wet activities after your appointment.
Avoid extreme heat around the eyes and keep oils away from the adhesive. A very hot sauna, steam room or long, scalding shower is a different kind of exposure from an ordinary shower or swim.
If your extensions get wet, let water run over them gently rather than rubbing or pulling. Pat them dry and allow them to settle.
Keep oil away from the lash line
Oil can interfere with the adhesive and may shorten retention. Check your eye makeup remover, cleanser, moisturiser and serums. Choose oil-free options around the eyes, and take care when applying skincare so it does not sit on the lash line.
Do not rub, pick or pull
Rubbing can twist extensions, pull on your natural lashes and make the set look uneven. Remove eye makeup with a light touch. If your eyes feel itchy or irritated, speak with your lash artist rather than trying to fix the set yourself.
Be thoughtful with mascara and sleep
Extensions already give you definition, so mascara is usually unnecessary. If you choose to wear it, avoid waterproof formulas that need firm rubbing to remove. Try to sleep without pressing your face into the pillow, and brush the lashes gently with a clean spoolie when needed.
When it is time for an infill
Infills are easier when you still have a healthy amount of the original set remaining. Your lash artist can recommend a timing that suits your natural lash cycle and the style you wear.

The simple version
Clean them daily. Avoid oils and extreme heat. Do not rub. You can get them wet after your appointment, including at the gym or beach, thanks to the adhesive-sealing protocol used at The Lash Spa. When you are ready for your next appointment, your lash artist will help you choose the right maintenance plan.
Book online at The Lash Spa in Varsity Lakes when you are ready for your next set or infill.
