Once you live life with luxurious long lashes, it’s hard to go back! The good news is you don’t have to. With the right care, you can maintain the health of your natural lashes while reaping the benefits of beautiful lash extensions. Keep reading for our top 6 tips on how to keep your natural lashes healthy while wearing extensions.
Visit a qualified lash technician
Damage to natural lashes occurs from improper application or when the stylist selects extensions that are too long or heavy for your natural lashes. Before every application, the lash technician should inspect the health of your natural lashes before recommending a suitable style. At The Lash Spa, our Master Lash Stylists have thousands of hours of lashing experience so you’re always in safe hands.
Use a lash boosting serum
It’s important to remember that your lashes need just as much TLC as you give your hair. We recommend every client invests in a lash boosting serum to promote hair growth and keep your lashes strong and healthy. At The Lash Spa, we exclusively stock Revive7 Lash Growth Serum as we’ve seen the incredible results firsthand. To order Revive7, visit our Varsity Lakes salon, or call us on 0756 891 919
Avoid tugging or pulling your extensions
The more you touch, pull or tug on your eyelash extensions – the weaker the bond becomes and the more likely they are to prematurely fall out. When you pull the extensions out early, your natural lash will come with it which can cause damage to your lash line. We recommend using a lash spoolie to gently comb through the lashes regularly. We include one of these lash wands in every client’s welcome goodie bag.
Keep your lashes clean
In order to maintain the health of your natural lashes, it’s extremely important to keep your lashes clean. Wash your lashes regularly with a gentle, oil-free cleanser to ensure there’s no debris build up on your extensions. When it comes to removing makeup, we recommend using a cotton tip around your lash line to ensure you keep them clean but are super gentle while doing so.
Be mindful of how you sleep
If you sleep on your face, side or often move around a lot in your sleep – it’s worth investing in a 3D Lash Contour Sleep Mask. These masks have been specially designed for lash extensions with contours around the eye area to ensure your extensions are protected while you sleep. We also recommend sleeping on a silk pillowcase, as opposed to a cotton one. Most pillowcase fabrics (especially cotton) have stray fibres that can tug at your lashes.
Ensure you follow the correct aftercare
At The Lash Spa, we’re passionate about aftercare and believe it’s one of the most important steps to healthy lashes. There are a few things to keep in mind once your lashes are applied. Make sure you avoid direct contact with water or steam for the first 24 hours. It takes up to 24 hours for the adhesive to properly bond the extension to your natural lash – and early exposure to heat or water can weaken this bond. You can read the rest of our aftercare tips here.
You should never have to forego the health of your lashes to have eyelash extensions. With the right care and attention, you can keep your natural lashes healthy while wearing beautiful lash extensions.
